It's a project in Midtown that's sure to get tails wagging. Sacramento City Council members unanimously approved a new dog park at 19th and Q streets.
Many dog-lovers said an outdoor space in the heart of midtown was years in the making.
"It'll be nice to have a dog park within walking distance. I think it'll be 5 or 6 blocks from our house," said midtown resident Laura Braden, who is the owner of two poodle-mixes.
She said Sutter's Landing is a popular spot for pooches right now, but it's a trek that requires getting behind the wheel.
"By the time we walk over there they're exhausted because they're only 12 pounds apiece," Braden said.
They'll be able to save some steps when the existing empty lot transforms into a fenced-in green space, that will have specific areas for both large and small dogs. The current rendering also shows a community garden. The park is expected to open at the end of next year.
